There are moments in this work that stop you in your tracks. For me, one of them came in July 2025, when Wellness Magazine published a feature about Unleashed Coffee under the headline: "The Coffee That Works as Hard as You Do."

I did not write that headline. A staff writer at Wellness Magazine did -- after looking at what we source, how we roast, and why we built this the way we did. I have been thinking about that phrase ever since, because it captures something I have tried to explain for years and never quite landed.

Great coffee is not passive. It is the result of real decisions made by real people who cared -- at the farm, at the roaster, and at every step in between. That is what "working hard" means in coffee. And it is exactly what I want sitting in your cup -- and in your break room -- this Professional Wellness Month.

I have visited the farm of David and Lillian -- farmers I know not just by name but by relationship. I know their children, Sabrina, David Jr., and Katherine, and their granddaughter Scarlett. As a certified Q-Grader -- the highest professional credential in specialty coffee -- I can tell you that small-batch, carefully sourced coffee and grocery shelf coffee are not the same product wearing different packaging. They are fundamentally different drinking experiences.
